Alright, I pay way too much attention to the stories behind songs and I love to hear why the artists write them. I know that Chris wrote IBI, IBO a while ago and it was released by someone else first. And if I've heard correctly, his wife is his long lost love that he gave up to pursue music a while back. So I was just wondering if the story behind IBI, IBO was intended for this girl who is now his wife, referring to when they broke up. If it is, I think it makes the song that much sweeter. If not, it's still a neat story that he ended back with his first love and the song is obviously awesome. I was just wondering if he ever mentioned his motivation for writing it.

Good ? I have always wondered that myself! I wouldnt be surprised if you are right...the way Chris puts his heart and soul into that song especially! I think thats what makes Chris a GREAT artist because he writes most of his own tunes, so they come from his heart and really have a meaning to them even if we dont always know what it is! I love watching and listening to him sing, he has so much passion for his music! PLAY IT LOUD!

i have heard chris explain i bi, ibo by saying we hear songs about losing the girl/guy and everything but he wanted to write a song about dealing with it pain. by taking it one day and doing what we naturally do and that being breathing, taking it one day at a time, and all the othr involuntary things that we naturally do.

i am sure some one will correct if i am wrong on saying that. i have chris's actual words on tape somewhere around the house.

ibi, ibo was written by chris and recorded by david kersh ...its on his if i never stop loving you cd.

Haven't we all been there? Let someone go and realize later they were very special to us? I too think there's some significance to this song. We'll never know unless Chris actually admits it, and thinking that the lost love back in his arms story is true life is AWESOME! I feel in my heart that this song is all about Chris' love for Elizabeth and how they lost each other. For them to end up back together makes it that much more beautiful! I don't think Chris expected it! LOL

When I first met Chris back in December of 2000 this is the story that I was told was behind 'I Breathe In, I Breathe Out'...

Chris was in Nashville at a bar on Valentines Day, alone! A girl came in and sat at the bar and when no one came in to join her he leaned over and asked her is she was waiting for  someone. She said 'No' and they started talking. They dated for a while and one night Chris called her to invite her over for dinner. He got all dressed up and cooked her dinner, set the table, whole nine yards. She comes over sits down for dinner and says ' I have to tell you something'  he says ' I have to tell you something first' ....he was planning on proposing to her.....so she says to him ' I have met someone else' . Needless to say, Chris didn't propose and they broke up.

One night Chris' friends finally got him out of the house because he was upset over the breakup. They took him to a hockey game and while they were in line at the concession Chris looked over and there she was with her new man, Matt!

Chris' friend asked him if he was okay and Chris said ' Man, I'm just gonna Breathe In, Breathe Out put one foot in front of the other and take one day at a time'

And so the story goes!!!  It's not at all about Elizabeth!

I remember Chris telling that story at a show last year. Actually, Chris got the song and the girl. His first #1 song and the girl he was destined to be with, Elizabeth. I'd say it worked out pretty good for him, the way it was suppose to work out. Jen(#1)

I knew someone would have the answer. And now that you said it, I do remember hearing the end about him going to a game and seeing the girl. I don't get that though. How on earth can someone pull the wool over someone's eyes to the point where one of them is ready to propose when the other is seeing someone else? I guess I just don't understand people. But, I guess it is good because everything worked out for the best. I hope that girl is kicking herself real hard for that one.

I just wanted to throw my two cents in. IBI IBO is a very special song to me. Those of you who have been here for a while, have heard this, but for those of you who are new, I have to share, cause it means so much to me. I was dating a guy for almost 2 years and then one day it was bam, I am getting back toghter with my ex girlfriend. For 6 months stright, I listened to IBI IBO and cried myself to sleep, and prayed that one day my soul mate would come back to me. One day out of the blue he calls me up and asks to come over. he comes over, tells me what a jerk and fool he's been, tells me I am his forever and his future, and askes me to try it again. I played IBI IBO for him, and we are back toghter and much pleased to tell you all that we are engaged to be married in December. So things do work out, and do have a happy ending and never underestimate the power of one song..It can bring people back toghter.. Aimee
